The Durga Puja celebrations were organised by the residents of Nayapatti Durgabati and Uttar Nayapatti under the supervision of the newly constituted 2026 organising committee.
The committee is headed by President Sanjay Chowdhury and Secretary Sentu Das, with active participation from the women members of the neighbourhood and special cooperation from Dhananjay Thakur.
Traditional Sindoor Khela Marks an Emotional Farewell to Goddess Durga
Vijaya Dashami, the final day of Durga Puja, holds immense cultural and religious significance for Bengali communities.
Following traditional customs, women offered betel leaves and sweets to Goddess Durga before bidding an emotional farewell to the deity.
The ceremony was followed by the much-awaited Sindoor Khela, a traditional Bengali ritual in which married women apply vermilion to one another’s foreheads, faces, and hair partings as a symbol of goodwill, marital happiness, and prosperity.
Women also exchanged sweets and festive greetings, while some followed the customary practice of touching vermilion to their Shankha, Pola, and Noa—traditional bangles and ornaments associated with married Bengali Hindu women.
The celebrations reflected the cultural heritage and emotional significance of Vijaya Dashami.
Women Play a Key Role in the Celebrations
One of the highlights of the festivities was the active involvement of the women members of Nayapatti Durgabati and Uttar Nayapatti.
Their collective participation and cooperation played an important role in organising the traditional rituals and Sindoor Khela celebrations.
Special cooperation from Dhananjay Thakur also contributed to the community’s Durga Puja arrangements.
